There I was last week in the Military surplus store in Seattle when I came upon a "Clearance Sale." Never one to miss out on a bargain if there is even a remote possibility that I might need it someday (no threat here from distaff side - she hates the time I lurk here). But I digress . . .

Some plastic NVG cases were on sale at $25. I liked everything about the Pelican-like plastic except the useless molded ridges all over - terminally UGLY! I wouldn't even put 'em on the KLR if I still had it. But they had two aluminum cases nearly the same size way in the back of the pile that had possibilities. "Yes," they'd sell 'em for the same price since they were the last 2 of that type.

Why these you ask?
I'm on a tight budget and need a more substantial case than my JC Whitney's for an outback trip this summer. Now I need to make 'em work, I'll update this thread with pics pretty soon when I complete the project.

How much does it weigh?
Sorry for the delay responding - digital bathroom scale no workee.

My guess is each case weighs less than 10Lbs.. This is based on three subjective data points:
1. Felt 1/2 as heavy as the steel 20mm ammo cans I was looking at the day I bought the aluminum ones
2. They are lighter than the aluminum Mermite cans that went with my KLR sold last summer
3. They are just barely heavier than my plastic JC Whitney cases

I'm curious about the exact weight too, so when I get a chance to weigh 'em, I'll be sure to post it. Bottom line - weight is not a show-stopper!
