Hmmmm,...

The DE is a beautiful bike and, had it been available when I bought my 650, I may have made a different decision.

I am very happy with my 650 but if I choose to upgrade, down grade or lust after another bike, that'll be up to me.

My post was an attempt at humour,....sorry it's not on point with everyone, I'll do better in the future.
Just a guess, but I expect V-Tom was using hummor too. Trying to justify not buying himself another motorcycle. After all he just bought a new DL1050 a two years ago. Now that it has a 100,000 miles on it other bikes might have started catching his eye.

That's a fair comment Rick.

My sincere apologies Tom, if I've misread your post.

Looking in the owner's manual - premium fuel is required, minimum 90 octane. I'm surprised that it's not recommending 93 with the 12.8 : 1 compression ratio.

Higher than the 12.5:1 in my BRZ and it recommends 93 but says 91 is acceptable.

Usually 11.5 to 1 is the limit for 87 octane.

93 octane is fairly hard to find. Usually at BP and Shell fuel stations.

The motorcycle may use knock sensors to retard timing. But I'm not sure if it has any...

The manual has this disclaimer below. I think the bike may have a limited ability to adapt to lower octane fuels...

NOTE:
The engine of this model is designed to use premium unleaded gasoline.

If the engine develops some trouble such as lack of acceleration or insufficient power, the cause may be the fuel. In such case, try changing to a different gas station...

Never saw so many warning, caution and notice symbols in my life. !!!!

Here is one:

!Warning! Children or pets may be harmed by swallowing new or used oil.
Lawyers at work! We live in a world far past its inhabitants using any level of common sense. The US has 18 times the per-capita numbers of lawyers compared to the world average. They are all looking for a payday for anything. Remember: every bad thing is someone else's fault! You were not warned.

A couple decades ago I bought a new ball peen hammer. There were two warning labels on the handle. "Always wear eye protection". OK, I get that, not every one may think about a spark or something in the eye.
The second warning: "Caution: Do not strike hand with hammer."
I swear I am not making this up.

Well, there is a good reason for that warning about not striking a hammer with a hammer. Both have hardened faces. If you hit two hardened objects together one can fracture throwing off razor sharp pieces at high speed. Seen people do it and bad things happened.
That warning was to protect you!

Thank goodness my bike is an inanimate object and it will never know that I'm thinking about the <really hot younger sibling> every time I'm riding it!
The 650 might not know, but your right hand knows!!! 🤛 (My 650k7 and I understood your humor! 🤣)

Being a big Vstrom fan (I have 2 650s, a first and a last gen XT ) I had great expectations for the new 800.

Please take no offense those are my personal impressions and I would love to change my mind about this bike.

I got to see the bike in flesh at the BKK motor show, and I already knew of what I feel is a questionable decision to have tubed rims in a non pure off road bike.

While approaching the bike I thought you'll see they will put tubeless next year for sure , just let' see this bike... oh well that did not go well... the entire bike looked and felt "cheap" from the look and feel to the touch of the plastics to the general finish of the bike. I never had this impression with any previous Vstrom model. It really felt like a cheap copy of a Chinese bike. Yes, this bad. I left the stand with such a sense of disappointment. I am going to give it another try once it hits showrooms, perhaps in a different color and with a chance to ride it. Really hope to change my mind

I don't think Suzuki's going to put tubeless tires on this bike in the future. This bike fills a gap in the v-strom line up. It's probably their best off-road adventure bike in the V-Strom series.

The looks are all subjective, I'm not a big fan of the DR look. But that's just me. All adventure bikes are ugly to me but somehow over time I fall in love with the looks. My guess is this bike will find owners who really want to adventure off-road more than the other v-strom bikes offer.

What I'm hoping to find out on this thread. How does it compare to the the DL 650/1050 off-road and it's competitors?

What do the owners who also own other v-strom's think about the bikes strengths and weaknesses when traveling off-road?

I would love to throw a leg over it!
