because I have often problems with my wrist (from dirt bike riding) I wonder which of these bikes has better handlebars for your wrist?
Looks like 650xt has more twisted bars to the rider, and xt has fat bars and less twisted. How are your bars for your wrists?
not sure what bars riser have to do with hands position? mostly will be seating, it's a touring bike.
personally don't like risers, don't use them on my ktm exc adn tenere.
Risers don't only lift the bars, you can get risers that go up and back. Plus with the base of the bars higher you can usually rotate them back bringing the ends in closer to your body.
Bars that have your wrists at full lock with arms straight out might be comfortable with elbows bent.
The advice on sitting there with eyes closed is right on, the trick is finding the option that'll get the bar ends under your hands
I don't care that you don't like risers , sometimes that is what's needed to solve the problem.
Sit on your bike, with a comfortable posture and your eyes closed. Lift your arms to handle bar height, but don't try reach to grab hold of your handle bars. Have someone take a pix of your arm length and wrist direction. This should help you diagnose if a handle bar hand position and reach problem. From this data, you can make adjustments / additions accordingly.
Aside from height, angle of grip seems to be what bothers my wrists. I had a fantastic FJR 1300, except the angle was slightly awkward on my wrists and made them either go numb or ache. I'm riding an '18 650 XT and I find the angle very good for my wrist comfort. I did add setback risers, but that was more for my back problems so that I would not have to lean forward much.
I don't like the amount of pull-back the OEM bars have and replaced them with bars with less pull-back. I even moved the bars from my WEE to the V2 so I would not need to experiment again.
I like Gert's suggestion a lot. Worth trying.
