96 liters is just right!

I bought a very simple storage box at Wal-Mart, and fastened it to a verandah (there just is no other word for that platform!) that was fastened to the luggage rack (I removed the rubber pad).

It served me well in Ontario and four states and five eastern provinces. If you study the messages posted here by Newfoundlander, you will see that platform and box. I must admit that crosswinds north of Gros Morne Park in Newfoundland were a positive pain, and I was very glad that I had planned to turn south at Cow Head NL.

Cost: $22. Waterproof and sturdy. I took precautions against losing the lid: I tied it loosely to the latches on each side, and always fastened bungee cords across it in both dimensions.

Technically, it is lockable, but a box that can be cut into pieces with a twenty-five cent knife can hardly be called secure.

It was just narrow enough (mounted the wide way) so that I could see past it with the mirrors. I could see a car squarely behind me in both mirrors by turning only my eyes.

I used it again on a 2200-mile trip from Sarasota FL to Williamsburg VA and it was again ideal. I will be using it next month on a 4000-mile trip to Texas (scenic route). I think I will make a smaller platform for the box.

Chris, I have the Shad 46L. You won't need a backrest pad if the passenger has a jacket with back armor. Works great as is.

For economy, I added a Bestem 46-litre top hard case on my Wee - $80 shipped. More than enough for my needs - has a tail light built-in that needs to be wired up and includes the rack plate to mount it. Holds my openface helmet with gloves, down vest, and other items.

i remember you also said the shad 37 side cases were not so great , they look nice , is it the the bags that are not good or the goofy mounting racks. i say goofy as you have to relocate the turn signals, i was planing on shad 42 for side cases , they are 177 each . another thought was too cut the left side case mount as it hangs out so far. reweld it , then run a 42 litre on the left side and a 36 on the right . reduceing the width of the bike when bags are on . ive never had side bags , is the width of the bike something you notice ?, as we dont lane split here im sure its not an issue

Chris, I have the 46 on top and 43's on the sides. The molds for the side bags are terrible. They look cheap and don't even appear to seal properly when closed although they actually do seal somehow. The 42's do look better apparently. The signals have to be relocated( smaller one are supplied with the side bags). The mounting system for the sides are a joke IMHO. There is a heavy duty metal bar that goes across the tail section but under the factory rack. This is the reason for a signal location change. Had to change wiring, modify the cross piece and a bit to the rack itself. Do it again ?? NEVER. Just order Givi and be happy.

I found the image of my Wee-Strom in Newfoundland

... with the 96-liter box, as well as the rest of the gear I needed.

The hitchhikers were outa luck!

E52 here, with the added brake lights. I don't have to look at it while I'm riding, so I couldn't tell ya whether it "fits" or not ;). My work buddies say it looks like a spaceship landed on my bike
