Did some maintence on the wee, aircleaner, scrub and oiled chain, oiled the pedals pivots and such, then rode 250 miles or so in the used Sargent I got in the sale forum. Seat is broken in and shows no signs of wear. Stopped once for fuel and burgers. I can say the first 2 hours (130miles) where good, the 3rd hour...was OK, the 4th and 5th, ...a lot of moving around in the seat, standing on the pegs...you get the picture. I thinks it still better than the stocker though.

I rode my ST1100 for 3 years with a Sargent. I was looking for a break every 100 miles or so of super slab. With the Russell, I can go until I run out of gas, fill up, and keep going without a second thought. When I get a new seat for the Wee, I won't even think twice about which one to get. The answer is going to be Russell no question.

Arses are like opinions - everybody has 'em and most, well, you know. I've done eight hours with only one stop for gas on my Sargent with no seat problems. I am sure the RDLs are outstanding, and might try one should I find the Wee otherwise complete and $$$ burning a hole in my pocket, but until then, no complaints with the SWS.

+1 for Sargent.

Once you get it into your head that "this seat is---" you will be wriggling around and standing on the pegs every 10 minutes.I have the stock seat with 10mm of High density foam under a sheep skin cover,on a long day I wear those gell bicycle shorts ,they work fine.Relax-enjoy the ride, you will never defeat gravity:yesnod:and it will cost a lot of money in the attempt.

There actually are some folks who do fine on the stock seat with no mods. I think this is where the term "iron butt" came from. :biggrinjester:

I have tried several seats on my V-strom and ST1300. Only thing that ever worked for more than 4 -6 hours has been the Russel Day Long. Now I won't leave home without it.

Amen to that. I've never owned anything other that stock seats on the 25 or so bikes I've owned. It is very common for me to run 14 hours a day on trips totaling 1600 to 1800 miles in three days. I guess I just got used to it at a very early age. Being a bit uncomfortable on a bike just feels normal to me. I've fallen asleep on some of the large touring bikes I've had so a little sensation on my backside is beneficial to me.

If and when I sell my wee I'm gonna keep the Russell even if I have nothing to put it on but a saw-horse. I like it that much.

9k in 3 weeks on my stock seat. *shrug* Seems like I was more comfortable and less fatigued than my friends on custom Corbins. If I wanted a barcalounger, I'd have stayed home! Longest stint was probably 580 miles in a day though, so no iron-butt here.

Did the return 250 miles today from Pittburgh, ya know what...may ass is just as sore as it was yesterday. I stopped at 160 refill and ate, about a 30 minute break to move the blood clot around seem to help.I had the stocker for 40K, so I know about sore asses and monkey butt, so for now I'll say....ummmm...not as sore as it used to be...yea thats it.

I did 1725 miles in two days last month with 99F weather on the second day on a Sargent seat and an Alaska Leather sheepskin. I don't feel a need to change seats.

I didn't spend ~$550 on the Russell after buying the Sargent, the DL1000 mod, the Airhawk, the beads, the Alaska Leather sheepskin, and that other Airhawk-like pad just for the hell of it.

For my arse, the Russell is no barcolounger, but it's the best thing I've tried and will get me through a 2,200 mile long weekend without RealPain™.

Amen, Brother!

Not that I'm any kind of an iron butter either but I have done some pretty full days on the stock gel and yes, my butt hurt after a while, and yes I did have to stop for a break now and then, but did I enjoy the day any less?? Not a friggen chance. I don't ride for comfort, I have a Lazy-Boy in the living room for that. I ride to see the road less travelled, what's over the next hill, and to get away from the routines of real life.

Take an ibuprofen and ride on!

RDL seats are great no doubt. I ride dirt bikes a lot so my butt is in top form for seat whippings.

I like the stocker but my sargent is better. I have found that the best thing is to start moving around early in my ride. I will stand up for miles on roads that are safe to do so and not high speed.

My shoulders hurt before my butt so I may need to mess with my bar set up a little.
