2022 vs. 2023 650XT Adventure

I'm getting ready to buy a 650 Adventure to keep my DRZ400S company in the garage and possibly to ride to Alaska with a friend next summer or fall. Two nearby shops have them in stock, a 2022 for $10,499 and a 2023 for $10,799. Anyone aware of improvements in the '23 over the '22? Minimal price difference but I can't find any info on what might have changed. I'm aware that '23 will be the final year for the 650 engine and I'm fine with that - I much prefer to buy the final year of the old design rather than the first year of the new design (the 800 that's allegedly coming out is an all new design AFAIK).

thanks,

Pretty sure they are all the same all the way back to 2017.

Maybe ask the dealer why it costs more? With such a minimal price difference I would probably also go with the newer one.
The only difference since 2017 is color options and possibly which accessories are included with the adventure model. Pricing is pretty much set by Suzuki and the extra $300 is just the cost of inflation.

Heres an option....
a 21 Adventure with under 600mi & an added top case. Its in OK City so a nice flynride mite be possible across southern NM AZ

Or...This...its even closer in Tucson
& if you dont need the spokes...$7399
use the $3k saved to farkle to your delight

And lastly...have you considered this??
Only 1800 mi & under $10k (222 days listed...bet it could be even le$$)
I have thouroughly enjoyed my 2014 DL1000s. Not much heavier than a 650 at around 510 lbs. Higher spec suspension & brakes + the xtra power

Only a comment, if off road riding is the aim, the 650 is far better there. The 1000 has too much torque and while it doesn't weigh a lot more than the 650 the weight is up high. When my 650 starts to tip over I can save that, the 1000 - no chance.

The 650 is better in really tight sealed twisties as well, touring, 1000 for sure.

I went to a shop yesterday to look at the 2022 650 Adventure and the 2022 1050. No battery in either one so no test ride. I am leaning toward the 650 - it seems to have adequate legroom (I have 36" inseam) and felt a bit lighter in the showroom. At age 75 I want a lighter/less topheavy bike than my old BMW R1100GS. This visit brought up a few more questions of course - one is whether anyone has been held up by the dealer for a "Flooring/dealer prep/additional markup" charge - in this case about $1600(!). So in addition to the MSRP and the "freight" charge and sales tax etc. Escondido Ccyle Center wants almost $2k more for things that should be included in the selling price. I've also found a used 2019 DL650XT Touring model for $8495 at the local BMW dealer - looks like the new price for that one was about $8500 in 2019 so it's only depreciated $5? On the bright side the used one already has the centerstand and the new one does not. The used one has about 6400 miles on it - anything to check for at that mileage? Only thing I can think of offhand is to check the chain tension - if it's been too tight there could be some damage but how to tell?

thanks,

You could make an offer on the one at the BMW dealer. They might negotiate.

I bought my '21 650 XT in June of '21 at just MSRP + tax and fees from Del Amo Motorsports in Santa Ana. Try Fun Bike Center as they usually do not charge ADM'S. A bike like the VStrom 650 should never command any ADM. Walk away from any dealer who insists on it. In this economy they should kiss your ass to buy a.VStrom!

The 2019 US list price I found on the web was $9999 for the 650XT
The list for a std 650 in 2014 was $8549
