Hi All,
I wanted to share a couple images and some history on this set-up for those that might be interested.
The bike is a 2020 V-Strom 650 Adventure model.
The trailer is a KipMoto SherpaX : SherpaX Dual-Sport Trailer
About the SherpaX:
I bought this new in approx. 2020. At that time, I had a Yamaha TW200 so that was what the front hitch was specifically built for.
Couple things I have done to it from stock:
The trailer is well built – I guess my one caution is the support from KipMoto is pretty-much non-existent. Once you buy the trailer (and that’s no easy task as they as very limited production), you are pretty much on your own – forget about asking for parts or mods or anything else. They don’t respond. Not sure but maybe some items (like tires or ?) on their site might be obtainable if it’s just drop into the shopping basket and check out (no interaction needed)? Like I said, they just don’t respond (or, at least that’s mostly been my experience). So, buyer beware – just be able to do anything/repair/mod on your own.
My plan is to run this down the Baja and back (from Phoenix) in approx. Feb 2024. Meanwhile, I’ll drag it around Arizona and to Colorado a few times to ensure everything is sorted-out. It will see mostly road use with excursions on moderate Jeep type 2-track roads (hopefully beaches!) but I’m not a motocross junkie (especially pulling a trailer OR riding a V-Strom 650!). For my intended use, I think a tubeless road tire would suit me better if I can find something for the SherpaX.
Anyway, thought I would share with this group! Ride Safe, Al

I bought this new in approx. 2020. At that time, I had a Yamaha TW200 so that was what the front hitch was specifically built for.
Couple things I have done to it from stock:
- Welded side plates for RotoPax fuel / water cans (1 each side). I used 1.75gallon cans but I also have a set of 1 gallon cans that work fine too. So, total of 3.5 gallons extra gas/water (or margaritas maybe?)
- Modified hitch to adapt to V-Strom. This was a major PITA. The TW200 was narrower than the V-Strom (believe it or not) so this whole effort is to widen the hitch nearly two inches. I had a through pin machined (fits into the hollow axel bolt) to the exact size (ok, a few thou smaller), cut off the old attachment points from the trailer, and welded new aluminum plates (Pic).
- I was able to get it plated for road use
- Electrical wiring for brake lights / turn signals from bike > SherpaX
- I would like to convert to a tubeless rim/street tire – The stocker is a 60/100-14” tube type tire on laced-rim (spoke) wheels. I’d really like to find a tubeless rim option and run a tubeless tire on it. Any recommendations welcome here.
