So i followed the instructions on dealer mode and got a c44 02 sensor code. Can someone please help me locate the offending sensor?

Moooboy, your C44 code applies to #2 02 sensor, which is the rear cylinder. Be aware that in diagnosis you have the ECM, wiring between the 02 and the the ECM, and the 02 itself as possible culprits.
This code applies to both sensor and the sensor heater operation.
An 02 is a "camera" for the ECM for adjustment to air-fuel ratio via injection duration. ANYTHING that causes the camera to give a signal that the ECM doesnt recognize can set an 02 code. A vacuum leak or dirty injector are just 2 examples.
An item that would affect both cylinders, such as low fuel pump pressure wont apply as you have only a code for 1 cylinder.
More than likely it's just a bad 02 sensor, but the proof will be in its replacement unless you want to go through all the diagnostic steps for that code.
"Get a code, get a part" doesnt always work.

The factory service manual is your best bet. I used my '14 DL1000 manual for your codes. The diagnostic steps, like most electrical/electronic testing requires a volt/ohmmeter. I also have on hand a 12V automotive test lamp, mini-alligator-clamp jumper cables, and that's basically it.
The goal is to repair/replace just what's necessary without spending time, effort, and money on unnecessary parts and procedures.
I COULD send you screenshots of the diagnostic pages if'n you like.

THe bummer is this bike only have a few hundreds miles on it since new. I have too many toys and not enough time. But, i want to get this fixed. its already had a new top end from suzuki for the cam lube issue and the stator recall.

Another method...read the manufacturer and part number on the suspected sensor itself, see if it transposes over to a NTN brand sensor and if so order one from Rock Auto like I did for my old Mazda Tribute for $27. An"If", to be sure.
But I'd rather diagnose and know what the failed component is or where a circuit problem is before I spend any money.

I wasn't aware the 2nd gen 650 had two oxygen sensors. I can only see one on my 2016, in the exhaust just behind the right front footpeg. Where is the other?

Edit. Just checked the book, the 650 doesn't show a code 64. Maybe dual O2 sensors unique to the 1000?

Thanks everyone. I bought a used O2 sensor on Fleabay from a grxr 600 and was here when i got home tonight. I swapped out the stock o2 sensor and Whalla, no more error code. I think i will buy a new one just because and keep the used one for trouble shooting purposes. Why is the Strom O2 sensor 3 times the price for the same sensor on another bike? The gsxr's wire lead is a bit longer but works fine. Cost me 8 bucks shipped.
