This might be a daft question but I will ask it anyways. How do we know if our bikes are the ones affected. I bought my '12 wee a few weeks ago from a local dealer, would thy have performed this work before the sale?

I know exactly how you feel, I was in your position exactly two weeks ago! I had a lousy sleep the night before I picked my Glee up, and an even worse sleep the next night because I was plotting my 2nd, 3rd, and fourth rides on it.
Your bike would definately not have been affected unless it was a used bike manufactured at end of 2011. The recall was for the early first batch of 2012 models and these were sold quickly, many were already pre-ordered.
Nice country up there although very much in the snow belt. I spent many summers at a cottage on silver birch beach just beyond Thunder bay.

It looks like only 210 bikes were sold before the problem was caught. The VIN on my bike is way out of that range but the front brake switch has a white dot on it indicating bikes that had the switch replaced post build are not included in that range.
Are all the parts of the vin significant in this? The first part of my vin looks different. I know there is a check digit in there that wouldn't count in any event. My last 7 digits are 2100093.
This document seems to be valid for US and Canada, my Strom, delivered in March 2012 was approx 300 units beyond the recall according to the VIN. You can scroll down and see the affected VINs for the recall.
