I had a chance to go over a new 2012 DL650, and noticed that the rear swingarm geometry was slightly different from my K4 Wee.

I measured the "frame-down-to" the swingarm distance (at the axle), fully extended. My admitted rough measurements say the new bike sits about 3/4" (19 mm) higher in the rear than my bike.

1. Would this extra height help account for some of the improved handling claimed for the new bike?

2. Any chance one of you 2012 owners can help with a reality check. Say measure the fully extended length of the new bike's shock?

3. Also, has anyone attempted to put the new seat on an old bike to see if it is close to fitting?

The shock is longer. See Motorcycle Ergonomics and select both DL650 year ranges. Cyle between the two with a mouse wheel.

The seat won't fit.

The improved handling is due to more than one thing.


The bike has had the mass moved inboard both ends and moved down generally.

The suspension is better set up both ends.

Doubt the height has had much impact as such.

A Plus One to GreyWolf for pointing out the info at Motorcycle Ergonomics.

I also checked out the ergos of the Tiger 800 compared to the Wee - The Tiger has a longer reach to the ground than the new DL650 and shows quite a forward lean for my height.
