Looking to purchase the Kappa K33N (GIVI V35 knockoffs) for my bike and cant decide on the hardware to use. The quick release seems awesome but the PLX look more integrated from the pictures I've seen. My big purchase for 2014. The Kappa setup bags, hardware and liners are about $286.00 cheaper then GIVI.

Any thoughts? If GIVI only made one set of hardware instead of three I wouldnt be having this problem.

The issue I see with the V35 style is that they don't really snug in to the lines of the bike (as they are designed to do) on high exhaust bikes. On ST bikes they look awesome but on trailees they don't.

I really wanted a set, but after looking at as many photos as I could find, decided that on the 650 Strom, they would just look off balance.

I don't know that I totally understand your question... if you are solid on wanting the V35 style (or Kappa equivalent) there are only two racks that will work, not three; the standard PLX style and the quick detach PLX style. That choice would be totally user preference... I prefer to leave racks on all the time, but some don't. If you are considering the PLR rack, that will not work with the V35 style cases.

Is this where you are thinking of getting them? I've heard good things: http://tourandride.com/my-motorcycle/suzuki/dl650-v-strom-12-13

Hi Uncle Fester, I went through the same process as you last year when deciding which luggage to buy for my 2012 650 (Glee)
Givi racks for the Glee come in three flavours, all of which carry the 3101 suffix. This identifies them with the L2 DL650 like yours in your avatar, and mine.

The PL3101 is a non-quick release system for flat-based monokey boxes, like Trekkers or the old favourites E45 and E36.

The PLR3101 is a quick-release version of the same, and fits the same flat-based cases. The R indicates "removable"

ThePLX3101 is curved, and fits ONLY V35 cases, and they will ONLY fit the PLX3101.

Givi do not, as yet, make a removable system for V35 cases to fit our bike, (which would no doubt be a PLXR3101)

They make them for other bikes, but not the Glee, and have told me they do not intend to do so in the near future.
I decided to go with the PLR 3101 on grounds of price, interchangeability with different case styles should I fancy a change (or have to replace a damaged one) and, as has been mentioned, the V35 system does not really seem to fit the Glee too well. Look at them tucked high and close on a Bandit or a VFR and they make more sense, on ours they look a bit low and wide.

Heh, my bad, I thought they made the PLX style in a removable rack. Nice summary though. :hurray:
