Hi everyone

I live in the europe. My 2012 DL650 L2 is about 2300km. I heard some sound from the engine. I was thinked its vibrating something but time by time I found that I dont know in English but its engine knocking or pinging (I found on google) at 4000rpm to 6500rpm especially when with my wife (I mean when the bike is heavy and when I accelerate hardly-fully turn the accelerator)
I'm using 95ron gas from Shell.
I dont understand why this happens??
Is anybody know about this knocking or pinging??
How to solve it? Or is it normal?
Thanks
Orbay

Mine has a rattle at about 4800 rpm which from what I have heard most 2012s do. It could be that.

Without hearing it, it's hard to say for sure. Pinging sounds like shaking a tin can full of marbles. It would be most evident when quickly turning the throttle up fully while carrying a heavy load in 6th gear at minimum revs, about 3000rpm. If it is pinging, it will do it then.

That's a big 10-4, when I got my 600m maintenance I asked them to check out the rattle and everything was good. I still experience this but as I've gotten used to it I don't notice it much anymore.

Does it do any good to drop down a gear or two  I am thinking with the OP statement about loaded with his wife etc it might just be lugging it.

It doesnt matter the load or gear its consistanly at 4800 rpm. Only time I dont hear it is when im playing and dont stay around that rpm for more than half a second.

Thank you all for sharing comments :)

I'm sorry for late reply becouse of I went out of the country and also didnt ride my bike.

I went to service today and they said this new engine is more compression than the older model so its normal. Time by time after some 3000-5000km it will be return the normal. And they also said I can try the different gas station for refueling.

I will try it..
Thanks

I wouldn't take it back to that shop, they sound clueless! It's certainly not normal, and it certainly won't magically disappear after 3000-5000km.

They are also wrong. The old model is 11.5:1 compression, and the new model is 11.2:1 compression, so it's actually less.

But definitely see how it goes on the next tank of fuel. You couldn't filled up with a bad batch of fuel. I am not sure what the fuel quality is like in Istanbul.

I'm hearing something similar with my 2012. I have approximately 300 miles and sometimes when over 4000RPM I get a quick ringing sound (sounds like an old fashioned doorbell). I don't see any loss of power or anything of the sorts, just an annoying sound as if a chain is hitting metal or something.

Can another cause of this can be a vacuum hose leak? I know carburated engines can get too lean with vacuum leaks, causing the combustion temps to increase to the point they have detonation rattles.

Hi again,
Certainly I heard exactly the same ringing sound on my bike.
I didn't find why is this, but time by time it's have been reduced. Now my bike is at 8000km. I believe you will have the same thing.
