Hello,

Would anyone be able to tell me if the damper Scotts makes for the 2002 - 2009 DL1000 will fit on my bike (2012 DL1000)? From what I understand they are essentially the same. I wrote them and they told me that the mount will not work but I am still skeptical. Is there something changed with the tank mounts or fairings that will make this not work?

If it is the case and the Scotts wont fit, does anyone know of any other stabilizers made for that year bike?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't say as I have never had your year bikes but I did fit a Scotts from a 09 Wee to my 2014 V2.

It was quite easy I just drilled one hole to get the Scotts frame mount where it needed to be.

When I fitted the Scotts to the Wee I made my own brackets that used the front tank mount not the Scotts mount so with a little thought and some hand tools it should be achievable.

Do you think it's the same difference with the Vee? I just dont see them changing much as far as frame or mounts from a K to L. It's not even a version change really. Just a minor update, and honestly I dont know what those updates even were.

The part number for the 1000 & the 650 are the same, they only list a mount for the early 650's but many people fitted them to the later model bikes, I would think it's the same for the 1000.

When the early 650 mount was used on the later model bikes the front of the tank sat a fraction higher, you could make a change to the mount to get the front back down if you wanted to, it is just a bump on the new frame that is higher than the old one

Post #29 will give you more information to start with, I know there is a lot more information on this site if want to spend some time you should get some photos to work with.

The V2 is very different to all the other bikes but fitting a early 650 mount was not that hard.

I think the mount for the Vstrom from Scotts will fit all the Dl1000s for 2002 through 2012. I have the set up that I plan to install but I am wondering why. The Vstrom is a long bike and has not been prone to twitchyness that I have noticed. I have had Scotts dampers on A 2003 KTM 525 and a 2007 Yamaha WR450. The thing about a damper is you will never know if it worked or not in a crash or a save. I think they were originally installed on quick steering sport bikes that were prone to tank slappers. The desert racing crowd uses them because they want every advantage and high speed impacts are common. We mere mortals use them because we cannot resist spending money on shiny bobbles for our rides. Just my opinion.

I recently got hit by a Kangaroo, I know the Scott's saved a spill.

Another Stromer I ride with a lot also purchased a Scott's after riding a lot of dirt with me, he could see how much easier I was travelling in the dirt than he was.

They build confidence and riding is more fun if you have more confidence.

They will help every bike not just bad bikes.
