I currently have a Ural and I am in the market for a two wheeler. I am looking pretty hard at the 650 strom. So the choice I have is a left over 2011 or 2012.

Are there huge differences between the 11's & 12 beyond cosmetics?

Maintainence intervals the same?

What say the experienced stromers?

Get the 12. It's a better bike all around and will cost you the same by the time you factor resale into it.

Hi, I would think that you will be able to negotiate a better price on the 2011 and honestly there are some differences between the 2011 and 2012, most of which are a matter of personal preference given the choice in my opinion.

No oil cooler on the 2012 hanging down and engine in the vein of the SV650 Gladius vs the balance of the SV650 and DL650 family,

The claimed increased power is marginal in my opinion and with an aftermarket exhaust, Air Filter and Power Commander they are really about the same when it comes to capability.

Go for the one you like the looks of best or meets your budget and other needs best,

Either way I am sure you will love the DL650,

Enjoy the ride, and best regards,

I'm one of the DL riders with both.

IF money is no object and you are looking at new bikes get the 2012 - mainly because it has good suspension and a good seat better wind management - fixing those issues on the older model costs money - so at new prices, the 2012 I think is better value.

Best value for money though would be a farkled up low k's older model. The things are tanks and with the $$ saved fixing any remaining niggles will still leave you with spare cash. You should be able to get really good deals over the next few months as the 2012's hit the dealers.

Hi Pete, you are right, The seat on the 2012 is much nicer. Actually the first thing I noticed when I first saw one back in November. I sat on it and immediately thought, this is as good as I need,

Looks; Also worked for me, Good to hear the OEM suspension is better,

Real value is as you point out in the earlier models that have been upgraded with nice mods and farkles,

Enjoy the ride, and best regards,

I went to the dealer today, They definetly tried to guide me to the '11 model. I sat on both, looked them over and I went with the 2012. :hurray:

I would have been happy with either bike I think. The Suzuki bags on the '11 are nice but they were not really an incentive as I like the Adventure style bags better. 0% financing is great!

I'll pick it next week weather permitting. :yesnod:

This will be my Second bike, My current ride is an 09 Ural Gear up. I Love it and so do my Twin boys but I was missing the two wheel experience! I'll be piling the miles up this spring!!

I went with a left over, after checking out a 2012 & an 2011. Price difference is minimal, so that wasn't a factor to me.
I also would have gone with either, if a Adventure model were available. Choice is in the eye of the beholder. The new model hasn't proved itself yet.
I don't think opinions should be a factor for your choice, your the one that will be riding & paying for you bike.
Have fun & ride safe, with whichever you decide.
