Hey Everyone,

I am looking at a 2008 V-Strom and had a few questions. The guy selling it says that the Speedo sender is broken and needs to be replaced. He never did it because he's been riding a long time and can judge his speed quite well. I on the other hand have not been riding for a while and would like to have this fixed. Does anyone know how much a new one would cost roughly and how easy it is to replace or if I need to have a professional do it.

The bike also has 40,000 KM and I know these bikes tend to be used for a lot of touring but is this a lot for this type? Should I look for something with less kms? He is the 2nd owner and the first guy bought it new to go across the states and sold it in the same year. New owner uses it for local and highway driving.

Thanks for all the help guys! Any info would be awesome!!

I would be very concerned with a broken speedometer. two reasons.
1. how many KMs are really on this bike?
2. if the owner didn't care enough to fix this, how well did he care for other items like maintenance?
I could be wrong regarding speedo and miles but most vehicles stop recording KMs when the speedo is broken.

My Vstrom was purchased by me in 2010 and I have just a tad over 40,000 km on it...Either he used it for a lot of short trips (bad), used it only for a few long trips/year (good), or he didn't ride that much..Either way, a broken speedo leaves you not knowing how many miles are on the bike (bad).. My advice - look for another bike.

He does say that the odometer does still work, but I haven't ridden the bike yet to see if this is actually true.
