2008 DL 1000 Gear Position Sensor - Does the full clutch need to come out?

First time poster - be gentle!
Does the full clutch need to be removed before I can replace the GPS? Its been giving intermittent C31 codes over the last few months and I either want to clean it or replace it. I'm nervous of taking out the full clutch but if needs must.

Appreciate any help!

Going from the pictures in the Service Manual and from memory, it looks like in order to get to the three screws/bolts holding the GPS that the clutch basket needs to come out. It might be possible to access those screws/bolts through holes in the clutch basket. That I just do not remember.
Removing the clutch disc is really easy....just keep them in order.

Appreciate the response.. I guess a torque wrench and suzuki clutch holding tool are in my future!! ;)
If all you have to do is to remove the clutch discs, the holding tool is not needed, only if the clutch basket has to come off.
The tool is not all that expensive; ranges from $16-$25 for new. Might be able to find a used one, or borrow one should someone near you have one. I could loan you mine, but the cost of shipping it both ways is probably more than just purchasing one.
If the Werks mod has not been done, this sure would be the time to do it, especially if the clutch basket has to be removed. So nice to have that clutch chudder GONE!!
The whole clutch basket has to come off..

Yep! No access holes in the clutch basket that I can see from those Service Manual pictures.
Clutch basket holding tool, torque wrench, new nut are in your future. Will also need a socket for the hub nut, pointed chisel to un-stake the nut, a drift to stake the nut. I guess the old nut could be used, but I replaced it.
You will also find that in order to torque down the nut, something is needed to hold the clutch basket tool in place. I used a piece of a 2x4 and a small hydraulic floor jack to block the end of the clutch basket tool. I needed to use both hands on the torque wrench to torque to 108-110 lb-ft, (whatever the correct value is).
Thanks for the tips! The clutch already has been "Werks"'d so this is just a sensor replacement.. thankfully

Is there a market for used holding tools? I searched on ebay but there are many different types available. I wasn't sure if they are all the same.
I purchased mine from RealShelby (Terry); EBC CT021. Many on ebay, just none used from what I saw. Terry sells it for $22 plus shipping and he has the hub nut as well.
