2003 VS 2004

About two months ago I purchased a 2003 and 2004 for my son and I to take a trip around Lake Superior. The 2003 is low milage and runs great. Its only disadvantage is the absolutely hideous yellow paint and the tiny windscreen. The 2004 it higher milage and was abruptly parked 5 years ago when the owner ended up in a wheelchair. The bike had running issues from a plugged air cleaner and 5-year-old gas. My son said lets just swap the tank and plastics. Unfortunately, one year has a 3 wire fuel pump and one has 4, so we cant readily swap tanks. I have already read that there are windscreen issues on the 02 and 03.

What other things are different between an 03 and 04? what other things wont interchange?

Stator and rotor are the same on the 2003-4 if I recall correctly. The 2002 had the different stator and rotor.
Clutch baskets are different, complete front fairing/instrument panel is different. Windshield has very little support on 02-3 models. Madstad now makes a support/bracket package for the early models. There is different ecm's between them and all instruments are different. Wiring/sensor placement is different. You will find a lot of minor differences in those years.

I, too, think the yellow looks great. Hope you come to like it over time.
Yellow was the best.

The early ECU was different, too. I still have a used good ECU from a 2003. Anybody need one?
