1st Gen DL1000 front axle trouble

Hey everyone. I'm slightly new to Stromtrooper, but I am having trouble reinstalling my front axle. I push as hard as I can and it won't quite make it to start threading. It gets close but not all the way. Help please

Shouldn't be a problem, but axle can jam a bit if axle not lined up properly. you may need to wriggle the wheel a bit to line up the axle properly until light pressure pushes it through.

Sometimes I've used a wood dowel to line up components and then chased the dowel through with the axle.
Light coating of grease on dowel and axle can help too.

Ditto what @jathkajoe and @Postie Jim said. Both need to be perfectly aligned. And I too use an old wooden dowel assist with the alignment plus shims under the tire to lift it up as needed.

I found my issue. Thank you all for the input. My outer fork tube is stripped on the inside. Anyone know any cheap parts sites? Ebay doesn't have a left one and partzilla is $400. Thanks again.
You can use a small scissor jack to lift the front wheel into position. This allows you 2 free hands to align the wheel and axle.

You could ask your local machine shop if they could make you a new axel that has a longer threaded section so you could add a nut to the outside.

If it were me, I would grease up your axle threads and feed it in from the outside of the fork leg to clean up the threads. But I'm red neck like that.

You beat me to this while I was resetting my password for the umpteenth time. Just do as oldjeep, or even better, chase the threads out with a tap starting from the outside.
You could use some MarineTex or other two part epoxy like JB Weld to build up the damaged threads area then tap it. I'd just do like suggested above though, chase the threads from the outside.
It really depends if the threads are completely stripped out, which is doubtful, or if our OP just buggered up the first thread and the axle wont start into the fork leg.

I would really consider looking into a Heli- coil option. You would probably have to have it done by a machine shop since it would require two Heli-coils.

Or here's one on flea Bay for $140

It seems that is still a but pricey for me when the entire triple tree and fork assembly is listed for 400 on ebay but I am considering all options at this point. Thanks
