I'm currently having a problem with my K3 1000, in as much as my total tank range is only 160 miles until empty (not showing empty, conking out at the roadside empty).
The dealer is saying that because Suzuki don't publish estimated tank ranges or mpg figures, there is nothing they can do and I have no recourse.

I don't feel this is acceptable.

What I am requesting, is that as many 1000 owners as possible post here with:

Bike model or year, miles until fuel indicator flashes, known tank range (if possible)

Then hopefully I can go back to them with this information and demonstrate to them that I have a problem.

Thanks in advance,

Luke

Here is my data on a DL650K4 and a DL1000K5.
http://www.thumbwave.com/dl650/DL650_fuel.xls

"Indicators" get flashy and annoying at somewhere just over 4 gallons down on both bikes. That leaves at least one and a half gallons left (effectively). That would probably mean the flashing starts on the DL1000 normally no later than 150 miles.

My practical range on the DL1000 would then be 165-180 miles, filling up then with at least a gallon in reserve in most cases.

I am getting about 150 - 170 till the last bar starts to flicker. It has been getting worse over time so I am going to check/do a TBS and clean the airfilter. My mileage seemed to go down some with the dealer remap to get rid of the 2500-3500 lean spot.

I have an '04 DL1000 and it's about the same as Sandiegoland posted with my typical daily riding. My bike currently has 16,500 miles. On a recent trip w/ about 350-mile days, I filled up at 201 at one stop and still had about a gallon left in the tank (assuming my gas receipt was accurate based on 5.8 tank capacity).

Luke,
I have an 04 DL1000. my fuel mileage is about 49mpg if i cruse at highway speeds. no playing joe road racer. i just did a trip with a large package straped to the seat sticking out on each side by about 10 inches and about 12 inches high and was crusing at around 75 to 85 miles per hr. and got 42.5 mpg.
i once went 239.5 miles without filling up and i had about .4 gallons left..
my fuel bar will start to flash when i have about 1.5gallons left and the center of the fuel bar will start flashing with around 1 gallon left.
hope this helps.
I THINK YOU NEED TO FIND A NEW DEALER......

'03 40k+ miles, and fuel bar flashes at 160-180 miles usually at 175 and takes just under 4 gallons of gas. Always seem to get ~45 mpg.

DL1000-K3 I get 40+ mpg. The last tank was a calculated 42.5. I have a PowerCommander (highly recommended). It hasn't affected the gas mileage much that I can tell. I have had both better and worse mileage before I put the PCIII in than what I am getting now.

I have a 2004 DL 1000 and the fuel light starts flashing after I have used 4.4 gallons. My lowest mileage on a full tank is 41 mpg and the highest mileage is 50 mpg so my total range, assuming my tank is really 5.8 gallons, is between 238 and 290 miles. I have gone 250 miles on a tank a couple of times.

I have a K2 1000. I average 41 - 43 MPG and don't typically have to look for fuel till I've gone 200 miles (1 bar flashing). I have pipes and a PCIII and have richened the low and mid range considerably. I didn't have the bike long enough without the PCIII to determine how much my MPG's went down with the mods.

Hmm

I always rest my Trip meter after fill ups and I get around 200 Miles per tank avg. That’s filling it up when Both ICONS start blinking constantly. Not the variations you get when they FIRST come on, and off…. Most of my riding is done in the 70MPH range.. and i have a Heavy Throttle hand!!

I've eventually managed to get a reply from the dealer having left them the bike for a day. They are unable to find a fault with the bike, and feel that receiving the fuel economy I am currently getting, is acceptable.
I am now in the process of writing a letter of complaint to suzuki with this thread as evidence to the contrary, so if anyone else is yet to add their details to this discussion, please do so!

Many thanks

2005 dl1000- start getting a flash around 160, and never add more than 4.5 gallons to this point, even when I was at 180. I ride over 75 ALL THE TIME and accelerate hard to get there... and the occasional wheelie. Your dealer sounds wrong... did you do all of the TBS, mapping etc. things already?

Luke, I have the same problem, let me know if you solved and how.
I can't believe this people go more than 200 miles. I never passed 160. Although I never refilled more than 4 gallons either, which means the tank has another 1.8 gallons inside. It looks like the gas tank measuring system is working wrong, correct?
