So whats up with 1000 not getting abs? Seems like the most obvious upgrade in the world, and yet its just not there.

Anyone around here annoyed by that?

Is there anything we can do about it?

I'm also curious about what i can do to increase the power of the 1000 as well.

I'm 6', 205 lbs, currently own a 09 klr 650. Looking most at the 2005ish 1000 v-stroms for the purpose of having more ponies to play with and improved touring capability. I've test driven the triumph tiger, bmw 1200 and 800 gs, ducati multistrada, and an 03 dl1000. Frankly the ducati was perfect, i just dont have the 17-20k to spend. the 1000 v-strom took a strong second and well thats why i'm here.

The 1000 is not even for sale in Europe any more due to emissions I believe and it seems unlikely it will be updated to include ABS. I doubt if you will need any more power than the 1000 has. It's an adventure bike not a super sport bike. I'd worry more about brakes and suspension than power.

It's a great bike for the money.

Brakes and suspension are the 2 big weak areas. I just got done doign major work to the suspension on my wee and the brakes will be a winter project.

My understanding is the 1000 is now discontinued in the US as well.

It's not anywhere and it's not going to happen because the Vee in it's current state is living on borrowed time so it's just time to get on with life and accept that or buy a bike with ABS.

Hopefully bikes like the Yamaha Super Tenere and the yet to been seen Triumph Tiger 800 will force Suzuki to get off there hands and redesign the V-Strom and not kill the VEE.

The only bike that would motivate me to sell my Wee would be a new 800 Strom with ABS...come on Suzuki we know you are flat broke but throw us a bone :thumbup:

ktm 990 adventure and more thoughts

ahh yeah i forgot to mention i test drove the ktm 990 adv as well. that is one burly testosterone machine, meant for a large person tho.

umm i like your 800 v-strom idea. its nicely packaged into the 800 gs for a mere 13k....:/ that bike isn't without issues tho, the pegs are annoyingly small, it kinda sucks at low speeds, and well, it lacks wind protection.

the guy that let me test drive his 2010 multistrada 1200 shared two absolutely briliant pieces of information 1) the new multistradas are sold as quickly as they put together 2) its the best handling bike he's ever driven (i'd have to agree, its stunning). so with the multi, you get 412 lbs, 150 hp, offroad capability, touring capability, and pretty much the best handling you can buy in a bike that can go 160 mph and accelerate at spontaneous orgasm producing levels. oh yeah, and its like the first ducati that actually might be reliable. HELLO.

why suzuki can't produce a 1000 cc competitor at 10k-11k price tag is just beyond me. you've got the legendary gsxr sportbike engine to start with, you've already got the weestrom abs.

cmon, wake up, quit being stupid /slap /slap /slap

more test rides

Well my test drive list now includes a 2005 duc multi 1000, a 2006 640, and a 2008 1100. all ducati multistradas. huh. the 2008 was pretty darn good. the others definitely less so. that dry clutch is downright annoying. the windscreen is really weak. i didn't think the seat was uncomfortable at all. unlike many of the comments one sees about ducatis. overall the ergonomics for the 2008 1100 was nearly perfect. the other two are really meant for smaller people. again i'm 6' 205. fun bikes tho, lotta pull, but then again so does the VEE.

i am not heartened at all by the super tenere. at 578 lbs i could probably stand on the prow of the titanic shouting "LEFT!" and expect better handling. probably a reasonable competitor for the ktm 990 and bmw 1200 gs tho. i am guessing there are some super people out there that don't fit on even those monsters yet lament their lack of offroad capability on their harleys.

i did find some very nice touring upgrade kits available for a 800 gs. one could probably load about a 100 used ones from europe, ship them to the us, and make a decent profit. sadly the oldest one you can buy here is a 2009. i did find one with all of the upgrades i would want to put on it for a cool 20k. /yawn.

so hopefully this information will be useful to someone. i can say with a fair degree of certainty that the 2010 ducati multistrada is probably the main reason the VEE is dying. probably for internal reasons suzuki has focused on the wee. it is definitely next on my test drive list. my fingers are crossed but i am hopeful.

if anyone would mind answering, my two thought lines revolve on 1) how to cheaply improve power/sport performance in the wee 2) how to cheaply improve off-road performance.
