First post so hopefully I can get my question across.

I have a 120 mile round trip commute so naturally had to change my chain and sprockets after a while

instead of the 17/41 stock on the 07 I put on a 17/42. I understand I should loose a bit of top end speed but now cruising down the interstate at 80 I'm pushing 4800 to 5000 RPM's and my bike vibrates uncomfortably.

I was hoping you all might have suggestions on a cause or if this is normal. Thank you and have a fantastic day

Omen tooth on the rear would not make very much difference to gearing. I’d check the alignment of the rear wheel first to ensure that it’s not “dog tracking” due to having one adjuster for chain tension different than the other. If that’s not it make sure the new sprocket is installed correctly sitting flush not warped etc. did you change the chain and front too? Any part could be causing weird vibes.

Yes I changed both sprockets and chain. I'll double check the alignment. I did the rear and chain but had to have a mechanic do the front I couldn't get that Allen key out.

Going up 1 tooth on the rear sprocket would make only a very small change in rpm's in 6th gear. Are you sure the front is a 17t and not a 16t? Common to go to 16/43 gearing on these and that sounds more like the rpm range you mention....

Regardless of gear ratios, does your bike vibrate the same when sustaining 5K rpm’s in other gears besides 6th? My ‘09 has always had an annoying vibration between 4800-5200 rpm no matter the gear ratio, chain or sprocket condition, alignment etc...

I have not pulled off the cover to count them yet I'm out of town till tomorrow but the receipt and package said 17.

Crash bars on these bikes are prone to vibrating at certain rpm ranges. It's possible you just pushed yourself into the hot spot.

The RPM difference should be about 150 more with your rear sprocket change. Hardly noticeable. I use 17-43 for about a 300 RPM change. No noticeable change in anything except the speedo error:).

PeteW's crash bar comment was prevalent here for a while. In the end it was determined to be symptom of not having the engine thrust adjuster torqued to spec. I think you will see similarities immediately. Having crash bars only makes the symptoms more obvious.

I'm wondering if the thrust adjuster could affect the infamous "clutch chudder" issue that many of our bikes have or had. The reworked clutches help a lot but perhaps this thrust adjuster could contribute to the problem.
