Creating Routes for Nuvi 550

My 2610 is fading and it's time to move on. I really prefer to make my routes on the PC and transfer to the GPS. I'm reading that that can be done with the Nuvi 550. What's the procedure? Mapsource? Google maps?

Thanks!

I downloaded Mapsource from Garmin and create my routes on the computer and then transfer to the Nuvi 550. No problem it's easy to do, and doesn't take any special tools.

This is my fav tool to use with my Zumo, so quick and easy, and as you say, lotsa via points, I place them after every single turn on the route.

As I understand it, the Mapsource software has been superceded with something new called "Basecamp", which you can download from the Garmin site.
How do I know? After having my Zumo for 5 years, I finally got around to trying to plan a route for the first time! Basecamp seemed easier to use than Mapsource, but admittedly, I never tried too much to figure it out way back when. Anyway, Basecamp seemed to work like a charm. Easy to make a route and lots of tutorials available to help clarify things. When done, one button to click and upload it to your GPS. There may be some minor diffrences in importing between the Zumo and a newer GPS, but it is all pretty simple.
As for Google maps, I don't believe there is an easy way to take a Google route and convert it to the kind of file the GPS can read. I did use G-Maps as a guide for planning and StreetView lets you double check the scenery and topography of the route as you go.

Cheers

Help I'm lost with GPS

well I guess this is as good a place as any to ask since I have a nuvi 500. so here it goes.

I tried to download a route that I traced in google maps then converted it with a program called "Tyre" it all went well enough except when I try to pull it up the nuvi says that it has too many waypoints to calculate. any Ideas how to tweek? Any good tutorials?
