Scala G4 PowerSet or Sena SMH10? And why?

I've beat this to death, comparing both models. I need some input.

The wife says we NEED communicators. I'm down to the obvious so I need to know what folks have and what they like/dislike about their choice.

1) Range is not that important to us. We ride fairly close.

2) Ease of use is important. If I stress over complicated maneuvers I'll just stop using it.

3) My wife tends to sing to herself in her helmet. I love her but I don't want to listen to it.

4) Wife is convinced she wants earbuds vs hardwired in-helmet speakers. Not a deal breaker IMHO.

I was looking at these a while back, both of them in fact. I decided the Sena ones would be better because of ease of use. You can leave the link open so you can talk freely without pressing anything, which you wouldn't want because of the singing bit. Or you can press the jog dial for a brief moment to initiate communication then talk, I understand this to be the best way to go with these. The Sena seem the simplest to use on account of having just the jog dial to worry about.

The Scala ones are better if you ever plan on adding multiple users to the ride as you can communicate with up to 4 riders simultaneously, the Sena let's you talk to only one rider at a time. I understand this may change in the near future with software updates however.

Anyway, check out Advrider, they have some great threads going on both and the Senas can be had from a dealer offering really good pricing to folks on the Advrider forum.

For the record I don't own these yet as I'm still undecided about going with a new Autocom setup which will be significantly more expensive, or with the Sena's which can be had for $280 for the pair.

I recently picked up the latest version of Sena new on Ebay for $250 shipped. Don't plan to start using until Spring.

With the Sena you can plug your ear buds directly into the unit on your helmet. I plan to go this route since I have custom molded ear phones.

Good luck!

I've had the Senna for about a year now. I don't use the blue tooth feature or anything else. My son and I just use it for communications. It's got enough volume to use with earplugs. I don't use the VOX. Just have it open all of the time. Battery life is about 10 hrs with it open. Range is about 1/2 mile or more line of sight which decreases drastically once you throw in trees or terrain. Riding with someone without this is a real pain. I'm spoiled by it.
