Thumbs up Questions about Fuzeblock FZ-1

Could someone direct me to a thread or article on line that goes into the details of installing the Fuzeblock on an 09 Wee Strom. I got one in the mail today and wish to install it in the cleanest way possible. So far I've learned to install it in the tool tray and I will need a switchable wire coming from a tail light ever how that is found. I have not done any electrical installs other than plug and play in a long time but I have the skills from years past if I have clear instructions . There's nothing left to do but the doin' of it so any one want to help out , grats all 'round.

Forgive me for this ...

I hate it when someone replies without answering my question, but I'm going to do just that.

If it's not too late to return the FZ-1, it sounds like you might be better served by an Eastern Beaver PC-8. It's very similar in construction and features, but has two advantages:
  • The relay in the kit is field-replaceable. I don't like the FZ-1's soldered-on relay.
  • Jim supplies all the plug-and-play bits you'll need, so it's easier for the electrically disinclined.

Boxes like this have drawbacks. They use solder for mechanical connection strength, which I don't like; and the PC-8 won't really accept #12 stranded wire, despite what its documentation says. Still, you can't beat its small size, which is the main reason to choose it over a more robust Blue Sea box.

Again, apologies for dodging your question and suggesting an alternative. I hope this is helpful in some way.

I will add, though, that if you do stick with the FZ-1, you should find tail connections very easy to tap for switching. Mine were joined with a simple wire nut, which is easy to remove to facilitate adding a wire to the bundle.

I have the FZ-1 on my Wee and really like it. I used a "Rear Brake Light Switch Connector Relay Switching Adapter" from Eastern Beaver (Vstrom page) to connect into a switchable line and it was easy. I like not messing with the actual wires like some of the taps do. Eastern Beaver is a treat to deal with.

Keep in mind that some devices (HotHandz grip heaters, in my experience) won't work well through any fuse block. Check your instructions.

+1 Eastern Beaver rear brake lite connector. It works great, doesn't require splicing into the stock wiring, and is easy to install. Also he has a good installation page w/ photos. (Its for his PC-8 but should be applicable to any fuse block).

Very interesting glitch in ordering from them. I put in my order and it came up 11.95 for the relay adapter and 596.00 shipping. There did not seem to be any way to correct this so I had to pass for now. LOL wonder if anyone ever ordered a part and did not pay attention to the decimal point on S&H....jus sayin

They have a sense of humor. Apparently they mean it when they say twenty dollar minimum order. tried to order the brake light connector alone and the only way to get one unless you want to pay six hundred bucks is to order two. I think for twenty five bucks splicing seems a better solution at this point.LOL

You could always order some Posi-taps, or another connector to get the minimum. I just made an ordered and added the Heated grip adaptor and turn signal adaptors. Don't need them, yet, but I might in the future. Seemed like a good investment, just in case. Took a little over a week to get here (I think it was like 9 days).

Yep , it ain't the money , it's the principle of the thing, still I can understand their not wanting to go through the process for a lousy twelve bucks. Maybe I ll look at the other stuff and see if there is anything else I can also use now or later . I'm starting to wish I'd ordered their box but I like the relay all being together and unlike thier system the fuzeblock can switch from all time to relay with simply moving the fuse position. That is clever and worth the trouble .

I plan to stick with the FZ 1 and I have ordered the rear tail light adapter.
I wish I had a photo wiring plan like the Beaver sight to see exactly how to wire up the FZ1. I got a lot of ideas how it would work best but not sure which way to go with everything.
