Dead Touch Screen on Zumo 450

I had been noticing some odd looking spots just inside the outer layer of my touch screen. This weekend, it went haywire. No matter where I press, whatever button happens to be in the lower right corner is activated.

I found many threads describing similiar failures and suggesting either a $150 refurb by Garmin on what was originally a $700 unit, or a diy solution detailed on advrider involving replacemernt of the touch-sensitive part of the screen with a $20 from China unit.

Anyone had the same problem? Is there another solution.

I had it happen to mine a 550. The screen would not register and I had odd colored streaks were I pushed. I went with the refurb unit as it had a warranty. I had never heard about any other fix, so I can't comment on it.

Did you try taking the battery out to "reboot" it?

I tried both hard and soft resets with no change.

Last night my $20 digitizer from China arrived. 10 minutes later, It's working like new.
