Want to have wireless/bluetooth MP3 system

Hi Guys.

Some help and info required please.

I wish to have a wireless system of listening to a MP3 player whereby;

The MP3 player is attached to the bike in a cradle with a bluetooth/wireless connection to headphones. I can then operate the MP3 player even with gloves on.

I then wish to have a battery operated headphone system in my helmet that receives the signal from the MP3 player. I use earplugs and do not wish to have the earphones/speakers inside my ears, just inside the helmet.

This will enable me to take off the helmet and move away from the bike at any time without having to worry about attached cables and cords etc.

Does anyone know if this is possible please and if so, can you please give me some info on bits required/available. I have trawled thru many posts and websites but am confused as to what a lot of the gadgets actually do.

Many thanks

There are numerous systems that will do exactly want you want. 30 seconds on Google will probably give you pages of manufacturers and resellers.

Start by looking at Cardo wireless on Google.

My system

I have a Tomtom w/bluetooth and handlebar cradle that shows directions and also plays MP3's loaded onto an SD card (16GB purchased separately) and works with my phone. The problem with helmet speakers is the music often gets drowned out above 50 mph by engine or wind noise making it hard to hear if you can at all. I installed a shark stereo for motorcycles (from Ebay ) it has a 50 to 100 Watt power amp (depending on model) and waterproof speakers. While still not too great at 70+ mph . It is just awesome 90% of the time at lower speeds. Any MP3 can plug into it with a mini jack male/male plug. Also it's pretty reasonably priced.. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the replies.

Purchased an Interphone F4 headset system today and a new Ipod Touch with bluetooth.

Installed the headset system in my helmet and this connects easily to my mobile phone via bluetooth and works a treat.

Cannot get the Ipod to recognise the headset bluetooth system at all. The Ipod picks up my wireless internet connection in the house but will not recognise the Interphone system.

Have googled all sorts of items/search ideas trying to find out why to no avail.

Can anyone help please??

Many thanks

The problem is that the bluetooth stack on IPOD's and IPHONES are purposely broken. To do what you are wanting I think you will need to jailbreak your ipod. Update it to version 4.0 before you jailbreak it. Then use the safari browser to go to jailbreakme.com. I can assure you that Jobs is never going to allow this stock.

After you jailbreak it you may be able to use it as is but if not you will have to install SBsettings. For now the only bluetooth app that I know of that might allow for this is called Bluetooth Mono from Cydia. Yes, that's the bad news, it's mono. But stereo will be out soon I'm sure.

Don't give up yet. It sounds to me like you haven't paired the headset to the iPod properly. It can work, according to reports I've found out on the web.

You note that the iPod Touch has no trouble connecting to your home network. That's fine, but that's not the "network" that your headset uses. Your home wireless is some type of 802.11 network (Apple calls it "Airport"). Bluetooth is different.

Re-read (or read) the section in the headset manual about pairing. If necessary, do a full reset to the original factory specs to make sure you've cleared out any old settings. Then try pairing the iPod first. Make sure bluetooth is turned on, and on the iPod Touch screen (Settings > General > Bluetooth) it should say "now discoverable" when you're in pairing mode. Then turn on the headset and make sure it's also in pairing mode (the manual should tell you how). Within 10-15 seconds (usually) the Touch will recognize the headset. You may need to enter a passcode on the Touch - it's usually "0000" (zero zero zero zero).

That SHOULD do it. You shouldn't have to jailbreak your iPod. If it still refuses to cooperate, you're not out of luck yet. You can use anexternal bluetooth adapter that will attach to the bottom of your Touch and relay the sound to your headset. But think of that as a last resort. The bluetooth in your iPod Touch is there so you can connect to stereo headsets. (among other things)

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Skyguy, you are a legend.

It helps when you follow the instructions properly

Followed your instructions and the thing paired up straight away, no probs. And the sound from this thing is sweet as.

Many thanks for your assistance one and all. Now to try it on the bike when the crappy rain stops and the weather fines up a bit.

Glad you got 'er fixed up.

Here is what I did for wireless tunes...

I have the Cardo Q2 multi-set, which contains an FM radio. As it is rather cumbersome to actually find stations, and the fact that during travel you need to find new ones I went to a Satellite radio. It plays thru my helmet (recieving from the Sirius via FM transmission) speakers, and works great. No wires, no fuss, no muss.

I also use an IPod from time to time, but it requires the use of a wire to the Cardo pod. No biggy, I just keep the IPod in my jacket top pocket.

Cheers!
