Garmin GPS V

Is anyone still using a Garmin GPS V ? Although I have a modern unit that tells me where to eat and tunes me up for not turning when I should, I still use my old GPS V unit on the bike. It has been dropped, immersed, kicked and partially backed over and it keeps on ticking. When I'm not in a complicated urban situation, it's all I want.

I see that it has recently been discontinued, so I'm hoping the last update I downloaded into it will not be the last that Garmin produces. I guess it had to happen sooner or later.

I still use my Garmin GPS V. Seven years ago, it was placed prominently and proudly on the dash board of my Datsun 240Z. Then, when I purchased a Panasonic Toughbook laptop and incorporated a GPS in it, I moved the GPS V to my Kawasaki Z900. However, it has been demoted again since I now have a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. It now resides on my bicycle. How Sad !!!

I'm with ya. Have the Garmin GPS III+ (predecessor to the V) and it still works great. Bought a Garmin Oregon 400T about a year ago and it's my go to GPS now in both the car and bike. However, the III+ is still around. Durable as hell. May not tell me when the laundry is done but it's a great piece of electronics. Bought it in 98 or 99 for a crazy price because it was top of the line at the time.

I'm using a streetpilot 2610 same situation as you, waterproof, bumped scratched, and the 12 volt connector is krazy-glued on. I use it for day rides and offroading. I don't care if it breaks or falls off the bike, which means it will never do either of those.
The only drawback is that garmin stopped updating the maps for these units in 2009.
I did manage to get the topo v-4 canada maps to work, but no routing which is just fine for me.
I am still keeping an eye out for a cheap 2720 as they can use the latest maps.

I've owned the 2620, 2720, 2820, a bunch of Nuvis, and Zumo 55 and 665.

There's a reason why they're discontinued.

They are usually discontinued for new features, or better map design (NT maps). I've still got the 2610 and a streetpilot 7200 that can do everything but make coffee. I've used a couple of nuvis, and a zumo 450 for a week. The 2610 still navigates just fine, so why bother paying close to $1000 for the latest zumo? Yes I do want one but in all honesty I wouldn't use half of what it can do.
For simple navigation you don't need to spend a ton of cash.

I use my Zumo 550 or my C330 on the Wee in conjunction with my Garman 3+. The 3+ is set to display the stats and my other GPS does the routing. This way I do not have to switch between screens while moving. Also the 3+ gives me volts and altitude.
