Cobra CXR900C FRS radio range

Hi All,

Radioworld claims that the Cobra CXR900C FRS radio has 50 km (31 mi) range. Well, the say ***up to*** I guess they measured the 50 km range in Nevada with the 2 radios in plain sight. Range must drop in the city.

Do you have any experience how much to believe the km range claimed by the manufacturer? What is the effective range for these radios in the city?

I have a different set that says "up to 27 kms". Real world around town with houses, trees elevation changes etc gives me about 3 kms.

We use them for camping with the kids.

I'm just saying....

2 miles is what I have found to be reliable range for any legal wattage FRS

that particular radio operates on GMRS frequencies as well. GMRS required a FCC license and is were the longer range is

How much longer? Double? That would be 4 miles. Or more?
