GPS mount

just bought a Garmin Dezl 770 and am using a ball mount clamped to the center of my handlebars, doesn't seam to be that secure, GPS flops around a little with each bump, can't help but think it will go skipping down the highway with a good jolt.

Just wondering what you all are using to mount your GPS and how secure it is, are you using any type of "tether" to prevent it from coming off the bike if shook loose, do I want a good solid mount that prevents movement, or something more flexible to absorb the jolts?

one more thing, I don't see that the Dezl 770 is motorcycle specific so I don't think its waterproof/resistant, any type of case that would be mountable, water tight and still be able to use the touch sensor of the screen?

ocoas

I use a SW-Motech vibration-damped GPS Holder and have a Touratech Zumo 590 & 595LM Locking Handlebar Mount mounted to it to hold my Garmin 590. The SW-Motech mounts under the windshield and puts everything above the dash and just below your line of sight for easy viewing. There is some minor bounce at times (rough roads and expansion cracks) but hasn't been too bothersome.

GPS mount

Using a DEZL 770!? Iíve used that GPS, that is a rather large unit for a motorcycle. For a car a DEZL 770 is a big unit. That GPS is designed for tractor-trailers, not motorcycles.

I've been looking for an affordable setup. This is interesting, but it says the battery is only good for an hour. What do you do about that?

Thanks!

You can get a direct to battery cable for the Garmin devices from eBay or Amazon

This is one option I found with the first google hit. There are better ones then this that are cheaper as well. Just to give you an idea of what youíre looking for

I poked a hole in the Aqua box for the power cord. It's powered when I plug in the GPS to the power outlet I have.
I got a marine grade power outlet, the ones from the auto store kinda rust up after a while.
I did put a piece of rubber sheet over the rear and the top of the Aqua box for more weather protection and shade for the screen.
Got the sheet of rubber from the hardware store and superglue makes it hold a shape.
I have a 2 headed adapter if I wanna charge the phone and use the gps at the same time. Crude but effective and don't need multiple outlets.

yes it is.

went to Best Buy looking for a GPS and bought a Garmin Drive Smart 51 because it was "Bluetooth compatible" and it would fit in my tank bag window and that's when I found out "Bluetooth compatible" doesn't mean "Bluetooth headset compatible", the sales rep had no idea of what a helmet comm unit was.

I exchanged it for the Dezl 770, the only one they had that would work with my Sena 20S, so ya big but it does what I need it to do.

I use a ball mount clamped to the Handlebar near the right hand reservoir. In that position the Wife can also see the Unit over my shoulder which She likes to do when on the back. I then clamp either a Zumo 550 or Zumo 590 to that mount using a lockable Touratech mount. Both move about somewhat due to the soft mountings but they really cannot come loose if the clamps on the two ends of the ball mounts are tightened properly. Both work with my Sena SC10 intercom unit.

I had thought of trying some of the mounts that facilitate a central mount above the Rev counter but nothing seemed strong enough imho. My bike is a DL1000L6

Its never too late to have a happy childhood
