Your 2610 should have come with a manual and a software disc that contains the maps/software required & unlock codes if I remember correctly. Now maps and routes are two very different things. I upgraded my 2610 a while ago so I don't remember the specifics.

It will probably come to you as a gpx file (maybe named something like route.gpx for example). gpx files are an industry-standard way to share tracks, routes, waypoints, etc. across different manufacturer's gps units.

All of the map files you need should already be in your 2610 so they will most likely be just sending you a route file which contains all the "directions" to get from point A to point X.

You can get the route file into your unit one of two really easy ways. (I am assuming you have already figured how to connect your unit to your PC via the USB cable.)

One is to use the Mapsource software that should have come with your unit. Just open Mapsource, and open the file they send you. Then click on the "send to gps" button and you are done. If you have not used Mapsource before, you will have to set it up to recognize your GPS, which I think it walks you through when you install the software... it's been a while since I installed so I'm not sure.

If for some reason you don't have Mapsource, the second way is to download a program called EasyGPS. It's absolutely free and a nice little program for simple PC-to-GPS file transfers. You will probably have to also download the USB driver for your unit from Garmin.com and install it. Then just open the route file sent to you and click on the send to gps button and you are done.

I've never used Streets and Trips but I would be willing to guess that it will also be able to load a gpx file and transfer it to a gps unit as well since gpx has become the defacto standard for this type of thing. The trick there would be getting S&T to talk to your GPS unit which I wouldn't be much help with there.

If you are having trouble figuring this out once you get the file, just post here what is holding you up and we can walk you through it.
