Installing a volt meter and usb port

I plan on using the accessory wiring that is on the bike.
Thinking of running hot wire through the volt meter, terminating at one side of usb port. Ground from other terminal of usb port back to the accessory harness.
Is this proper and ok?

No sir, these need to be in parallel. accessory power to hot side of voltmeter, jump it to hot side of USB. Then accessory ground to ground on voltmeter, then jump this to the USB ground.

Here is a diagram,think of one bulb as your voltmeter and the other your USB port. The battery is your accessory connector.

Make sure the USB port can handle 2.1 amp ....some are less and don't charge some devices properly
