I have the Garmin Zumo, the Garmin maps are good through Mexico but for everything else I would recommend getting an SD card and use the OSM maps (Open Source Maps). If you are not familiar with them just Google it. I've been using them for CA for the last year and a half, they work well enough, maybe a little lite on POI's but road coverage is pretty good.
