Garmin 55LM with a ChargerCity case quicky review
A quick review of the basic, cheapy Garmin 55LM
(120 bucks or so). Yes its for cars but with the addition of a ChargerCity
handlebar mount case it worked great for a 2 week, 2500 miles ride.
As I just became the happy owner of a '15 WeeXT and needed to put a gps on it. I did a fair amount of research and chose the Garmin 55LM. It was large enough to read easily, it had a true touch screen so it works while wearing gloves, and it had a fast enough processor and memory to operate smoothly with quick updates and reroutes. The icons are large enough to choose easily even through the covers plastic. Other than glare issues at times the screen is a breeze to read. I did like that I could choose either landscape or portrait mode and the extra info page lists lots of choices.. only thing I thought missing was temperature.
Paired with the ChargerCity case it stayed water resistant.. I drove through a coupla downpours and had no issues. I did remove the whole setup using it's ball socket disconnect when rain was forecast at night and as a theft deterrent. The mount system was very simple and withstood over 100 miles of gravel and dirt roads (having a Wee is fun, I'd never take my old ST1300 on them type of roads!)
