Osmand Advice: Improving Identification of Roads/Cities

I use the free version of Osmand as a reference map while riding. I use another paper map on my tank bag with the route highlighted. One frustrating thing I've noticed is that regardless of the zoom level, the Osmand map does not reliably display the number/name of the road I am on or approaching, nor the names of cities on the map. Therefore I have no way of cross-referencing my current gps location with the desired route of travel highlighted on my paper map.

I have tried tweaking the preferences, and adjusting the mode of travel. Nothing seems to work.

I've tried searching this forum and come up empty, apologies if this has been covered previously. I also posted this in ADV rider forum.

How do I get road names/numbers and towns/cities to be displayed more prominently?

Thanks in advance!
