It'll quit charging when it's charged. I suppose if you left it plugged in for long enough it could run the battery down, but I suspect that time would be measured in days, not hours. I leave it plugged in on my Jeep all the time. I do have it switched on my KLR so that power goes off with the ignition (haven't yet transferred that harness to the Wee, I'm going back to my old 60CSx for the KLR because the touchscreen on the Zumo is just too darned fragile for dirty use).
To get all the roads of the Zumo on your PC, you need to install the City Streets add-on that comes with the Zumo. Otherwise you get just the barebones base maps.
