Downloaded 2009 Garmin maps last night.

Took 2 hours for each gps(zumo and nuvi 680). And that was with a high speed cable modem.

I did.

To update mine to 2009, I had to update the firmware to 4.20. (Garmin's rules, not mine)

After the update, the unit shut down when searching for an address. harumph.

The fix was to delete the topo maps I had uploaded.

The slow speed is from Garmin's end... I have a 10-Mb connection at home, and it took about an hour and a half to download to my wife's Nuvi.

The good news is that since I had the Garmin Mapsource software loaded on my PC as well (for my relatively ancient 2610), I, too, got the updated software and data from version 9. Mine'll be due for replacement in about a year or so, so I might get another upgrade then for the wife's.
