Help! Mac user needs help with Vista

I'm trying to transfer my Garmin maps over to the Mac to start using Bobcat and made it all the way to burning the DVD with the files. Everything went well (so I thought) until I got home and popped the disk into the tray. Vista did something to the disk and the Mac thinks it's a blank CD now!

What should I have done to tell the PC to not [email protected]*K with the disk and just burn the files to it? I picked the "transfer files" choice when prompted but apparently I missed something. I was expecting a Mac-like process: 1) insert disk, 2) drag files to disk, 3) click "burn". Obviously it ain't that simple... any help?

There's a conversion program that you run on the PC to make a file that you can install on your Mac. It's sorta convoluted. Ok, very convoluted, but it does work.

go to advriders.com and look here- http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283360 there's several threads on Garmin & Macs in that forum.

I made it through all that and was just trying to burn the DVD with the newly converted files. I went back and used Roxio instead of letting Vista control things. All is good now.

I was hoping that Microsoft had finally caught up to Apple regarding their operating system, but alas, they haven't.

Mac user by choice and Windows user by force!

You may not have finalized the burn on Vista. If you don't do that, you can still right to it and OSX will not read it. Instead of a CD try a USB thumb drive. They are cheap and reusable and FAT formatted, and OSX can read it.

you may not need to do this there is a brand new update on the garmin website , so you can run the map program on mac. it just came out a couple days ago.
garmin is trying to keep the mac people happy . Go to garmin website , go to the maps tab at the top , and update . it will have new maps and will also allow you to download shit to your garmin without running windows.

mine did not want to burn on the DVD and the file was too big for a CD so I did a copy to a 2 GB flashdrive.... all went swimmingly well....

*Now all I have to do is figure out HOW to make a route... Bobcat does not work like the PC version of making a map... ???

I haven't been there in a few days so I'll head over and see what's new, Thanks!

The only thumb drive I had available was a measly 256 MB and that wasn't nearly enough!

As far as routing goes this worked for me: Find the destination you want and make it a waypoint (at the bottom of the find list pane). After you have all the waypoints you want for your route, click on "Create Route" in the "Edit" menu. Then drag over any of the way points you want from the pane on the left side of the screen to the routing window. You can also change the order by dragging and dropping in whatever order you choose. After you have all the points moved over then click the button on the lower left of the routing pane and choose "Recalculate Route" or Apple-R. This route will now be available in the list in the pane to the left of the map. Select it and send it to your Garmin. It sounds more complicated than it is...

PM me if you want and I can talk you through what little I've figured out.

Later!
