Garmin 2720 GPS Map Update Question...?

I just purchased a used 2720 to replace my 2610 as I thought with the NT map system I could still update it. I just found out that Garmin no longer supports map upgrades for my new to me 2720

I went with the older Garmin as its a good unit, good price and I have 4 bikes set up to us it (ie: one mount and 4 power cords hard wired into bikes) so I didn't want to have to re-work all 4 bikes.

Can I still find a copy of the DVD called:

Garmin City Navigator North America and Mexico NT DVD 2013?

Apparently that's the last one available for my GPS.

Or other map updating suggestions...? (ie: free versions)

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I have a 2730. Just last spring I was able to simply download new maps from the Garmin website no problem.

No longer a Vstrom Owner - fantastic bike! Now sporting a KTM 990 Adventure

I too have a 2730. I ordered the City Navigator North America NT 2014 DVD (includes Canada and Mexico) from Garmin last year. I installed on the PC and then transferred the maps to the 2730 after updating to NT 2014.2.

I am not positive I have 100% of the NA maps installed on the 2730 as there may be some size limitations, but do have the majority of the US maps if not all. I haven't had any routing issues in my travels.

Hey there folks thanks very much for your assistance with this.

Funny I sent GPS City an email asking if there are any updates availble for my 2720 and they replied that Garmin does not support that unit anymore, now I hear from two inmates that they have just uploaded 2014 NA NT map data to their 2730's!

So I sent GPS City an email asking "whasup".....?

I'll send Garmin an email as well.

Thanks!

I have a 2720 as well. When I tried to install a map upgrade a couple of months ago Garmin told me that 2013 was the last year for 2720 support. The new North American maps edition won't fit. They very politely invited me to upgrade to a new motorcycle GPS. I last updated it in 2012 and I think I will leave it at that.

I understand, however, that a number of users have downloaded the 2014 mapset to their computers and have installed less than the entire continent onto the 2720 with no issues. So, apparently it can be done, as long as you don't mind losing a few states or provinces you don't anticipate visiting all on the same trip.

Howdy and thanks for the follow up.

Here's the response I got back from Garmin:

"I have no way to guarantee this as updates are no longer supported on this device. However this will likely work once again it would be at your own risk."

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/maps.../prod1456.html

Pretty wishy washy eh.... It states clearly on Garmin's web site in red letters that the 2014 does not support the Street Pilot series.

Based on your folks experience I think it should work just fine as I use to only load a few maps at time on my old 2610 due to capacity issues.

Thanks again all!

Yep, in red letters: "This map is not compatible with StreetPilotŪ devices." BUT if you follow the link you provided, click on "Compatible Devices", it lists "StreetPilot 2720" and "StreetPilot 2730" and many other StreetPilots.

Could it be more confusing?

Just a note: I did not see "2014" mentioned on the Garmin web page, there is a possibility they are now shipping/downloading 2015 which I understand has been released. The part number on the web page is also different than the part number I ordered (010-11546-50).
