Running Light Mod for Turn Signals?

I've been planning to convert my front turn signals to running lights, where they are 'always-on' and blink OFF/ON only when the turn signal is activated. I bought some relays that would work, but when searching for a new flasher (due to changing to LED's), I found that Blair at SV Racing Parts sells adapters that do exactly that:

Be also sells the PnP flasher:

My question is; has anybody installed these products on their bikes? Both items are made by 12o'clock labs, and I use their SpeedoDRD speedometer corrector...very happy with it.

But I'm looking for comments from anyone that's done a running light mod using these products.

Thanks for any input!

Regards / Don

I think the flasher is only needed if LED bulbs are used.

I'd be concerned about the heat with the ordinary turn signal bulbs. LEDs don't put out the heat, but most don't put out as much light, either. An 1156 bulb puts out about 400 lumens of light (about 32 candlepower). A $20 LED bulb can put out the more light, 500 lumens, but it depends on the light distribution whether it actually appears brighter.

You'll need the amber version. The white won't show much through an amber lens.

The stroms with the side-mounted bulb, the bulb with the offset pins, has a BAU15S base. The brightest that superbrightleds.com offers only puts out 120 lumens, not enough.

PTRider...good considerations! Thanks for the info.

I neglected to mention that I previously installed Buell signals up front, using an 1156 bulb (21watts) to match OEM wattage needs to maintain stock flasher rate.

The Buell's socket is forward-facing, so that should allow a SuperBright LED 1156 instead of an incandescent bulb. Hopefully the lumens (~500 you say?) would be sufficient for running lights.

I'm curious about the adapters and flasher I mentioned above; ease of installation and reliability. I've purchased items from SV Racing before, as well as 12o'clock labs, and was very satisfied. Just wondering if anybody has actual experience with this mod using these components.

Thanks again for posting!

More

I have a 2 in. dia., 48 LED cluster from Custom Dynamics installed in all turn signals. Riding buddy says they nearly blinding and very attention getting with OEM flasher. Agree you need to get Amber LED if you have amber TS lens. The clusters have a pig-tail to an 1156 base and draw about 3.3 watts. I bought the same gizmos from Blair but have not installed them yet and am pondering how best to do this. On other threads I have seen the plastic box labled 'FUSE' and the plastic box to the left (which may be the OEM flasher or not) is removable and the wires with spade connectors are accessible and seem to have the power and ground wires from the 4 turn signals. If true, and if I can get them out intact, I may be able to make a "bridge" with Blair's gizmos. Trying to do this w/o soldering. Right now, I turn on the 4-way flashers when approaching a car that could turn left in front of me or enter or cross from the right shoulder. The flash rate now is similar to a cop car or garbage truck so people seem to be momentarily startled by it. If I complete the running light project, I will still be able to use the 4-way flash button for startle.
