From the Ear Phone Solutions website FAQ for the Westone UM1 and UM2:
Q. What are the best earphones for riding a motorcycle?
A. I'm assuming you use a full-face helmet. Believe it or not 90% of the staff here rides and the only earphones we use are these: Westone UM1 and UM2 as these are the only earphones that are flush with your outer-ear (aside from the Shure SE Series which also provide a flush fit). All other earphones stick out of the ear and will probably jam in all the way into your brain when you put the helmet on. :-) Seriously though, the only earphones to use on a bike are the Westone hands down followed by the Shure. ** Please check with local authorities as the use of earphones while riding a motorcycle maybe against the law in your state or country and they may impair the rider's ability to avoid hazardous situations.
Q. What are the best earphones for small ears?
A. The best recommendation for not only small ears, but for sound quality for the money, is the Westone UM1. My 12 year old daughter loves them and she is a tiny thing. :-)
Not that I have the ears of a 12 year old girl, but I do have small ear canals as found when trying to fit various sound reduction ear plugs. (For these, I use the green Max Lite foam ear plugs, comfy for 8-16 hours of use.) The UM1 and UM2's claim to be low profile and don't stick out of your ear, making helmet use a lot easier. They claim up to (that's 'up to') 25db of sound reduction.
I'm going to buy a pair of UM1 closer to the start of spring riding season (late March or so), and take advantage of their 30-day satisfaction period. I'll report back what I find out.
