Cant get Garmin 2730 to recognize tracks made in Mapsource

Ok - go easy on me - GPS Newb Alert!!

I have been searching here, on ADV and elsewhere and cant find the answer.

I have tried this in both Basecamp and Mapsource.

I made a "track" in Basecamp and Mapsource, went through the routine to send it to the 2730. All goes fine. The PC can recognize the file being on the 2730. How do I get the track I made to display on the 2730 such I can follow it? I found a suggestion it must be named Active Log 001 etc. tried that no luck!

BUT - if I instead make a route on the PC (only tried this in mapsource - assume it would be same in basecamp), send it to the unit - yep it appears in my saved routes and seems to work (I have not tried to "drive it" yet - but it appears as a route and all seems good.

Any suggestions?

I have a 2730 and haven't tried tracks so I guess I am no help. I do use routes. I have used MapSource and now Basecamp and both send the routes to the GPS just fine for me. And I have used them to "drive by" on several multi-week trips.

I don't know specifically about that model of GPS but I have only ever tried sending tracks and routes through Mapsource and Basecamp. Why don't you just use one of those?

..Tom

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

See my original post - I am using Basecamp and/or Mapsource. Creating the track or route there then using them to get them to the 2730. When the GPS is connected to the PC I can "see" the file for the track I created on the PC is now on the GPS - but the GPS does not seem to be able to do anything with the track.

I can send the Routes I have created as well - those work fine. The risk with a route is it "recalculating" mid ride - if for example I screwed up and forgot to shut off the recalc. and I go off route. I messed with all this today in fact - GPS set for no recalc. Started out driving the route - deliberately veered off course - good news - no recalc! Later, I drove back onto the route - but again continued off course - it did a recalc then for some weird reason.

BUT the good news is - the route I loaded remained intact on the unit - so it will end up working out. I would prefer to find a way to use tracks though - eliminates those recalc risks. I am starting to think that will not be possible though.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were doing with the tracks.

Last time I used tracks while on roads in a car or bike was with my Garmin eMap.

Once I understood how the units navigate I just added enough waypoints to ensure it follows my intended route. I have ridden literally a few hundred thousand KMS with no issues.

Well I got it to work! Thanks to an inmate over on ADV - I realized the issue was that I was naming the track Active Log...instead of ACTIVE LOG - yep - had to be in all caps for it to be read.

I think the biggest issue is it is very hard to see the line for the track on the GPS - a rather thin dotted line in black - hard to pick out when it is on a road on the map - OK if it were in an area without a road under it. I have not driven with it yet - but will tomorrow to see how hard it is to pick out when driving. (yes...driving....still to much snow here to ride)

Thanks for the help!
