digital votmeters

I'm fixing to add a 12V cig plug and voltmeter to my bike using the EB harness and the AdventureTech auxiliary shelf. I've read about the datel voltmeters but heck I didn't know the gem was $55 w/bezel. Can they be had for less? Found a cheap one on e bay for like $5. Any good or just spring for the datel?

I've run the datel dvms. On several bikes for about 10 years and none have failed. That being said they were about $25-30 at the time. There are datel look alikes on eBay for $2-3 so there isn't huge downside risk to trying a knock off. The datel meters do work and I've never heard of one failing.

Thanks... eBay it is. I assume the $5 look-a-like on eBay will fit in the hole cut in the little shelf thingy from adventuretech or would I need to cut my own?

The cutout will be similar, but I wouldn't assume it's the same. Also, buy two from eBay, so you have a spare, or put one in the cage.

I have a Datel from years ago, but also have a couple from eBay. They are reasonably good quality.

Be sure and check whatever you get from ebay for accuracy. It took buying 3 to get me an accurate one. Some people don't care as long as they know how far off it is. I can't comprehend that way of looking at it; they are assuming several things, one of which is that it will be off the same amount across the scale. If you have defective or sub par components in the unit making it inaccurate, you don't really know what's happening and it defeats the purpose for installing it in the first place.
Anyways, something to think about.
