How do the Cogent DDC valves compare to the Racetech Gold Valves? Anybody tried them both over the years?
Reading their respective websites is seems that Racetech is more geared toward sport bike racing, but that doesn't mean their products can't be tuned for adventure touring.
Any other decent options for fork valves? Rear Shocks?
Racetech works great but there are a couple issues.. for one there's no rebound adjustment and the other one they need fiddling with to get them right. You also need to remove and drill rods; I have done it on several other bikes it isn't big deal but more extra work and there's no going back after.
There's also Ricor Intiminators which I have and while they are great for pavement but they are not setup right for rougher terrain and will require tuning. Anti-dive valve but no rebound adjustment and from my experience there's not enough rebound.
For rear you can get Ohlins ($$$$), Progressive, Wilbers, HyperPro, Touratech.. Elka if you find one used as they got out of bike business. For anything in $500-800 range you are loosing remote preload, and it is a pain royale to adjust preload on post 08 Wee due to abs box location. Alternatively you can have your stock shock revalved by Sasquatch or DMi or swap spring for HyperPro or Racetech.
I have put HyperPro rear spring and it works extremely well with stock valving. I have tested revalved and aftermarket shocks and couldn't say they were better or worse.. just work as supposed to so you don't think just ride. IMHO OEM spring 90% of the problem with stock shock.
One of the advantages of HyperPro variable wound rear spring it allows for wider range of adjustment from solo light to 2up loaded on Dalton I could adjust preload to accommodate. Most important the behavior of suspension doesn't change with additional weight/preload.
EDIT: from what I understand DMi uses Racetech GVE and for what he is charging it's well worth to just let him do it. Also after revalve by Sasquatch or DMi rear shock will be rebuildable.
If I were to do new bike I would do HP springs f/r and DDC, or if for solo only and being lazy would take forks/shock and send it off to DMi good luck
