Best 100% on road tires for cross country

I’m setting up my 2004 DL1000 for a NC to CA and back trip next spring/summer. What are some good tire selections for road tires. At worst, I might hit some gravel driveways but I’m planning on keeping it on the blacktop for this trip.

Michelin Pilot Road is a highly regarded sport touring tire.

Garage
I’ve got some PR4 Trails on my 650 and they seem pretty good but I’ve only got 3,000 miles on them.

Another vote for Pilot Road tires. My experience is with PR2 version. I used to get 12k miles out of those on 1000cc sport bike. Excellent grip in the wet and confidence inspiring in corners.

After you get past middle Ohio or Tennessee you got a whole lot of straight roads. Dry handling isn't going to be as paramount as wear or wet handling.

Three of my buddies just did a 6,500+ mile trip out west and back all on Power Road and all came back with a couple of thousand miles of tread left.

I ride entirely paved roads. I've had good success with Pilot Roads - great handling in dry and especially wet. Very good wear. Years ago, the PR2s lasted 10k miles for me. My current PR4 rear is nearly due for replacement and will get me 12k miles. My PR4 front will probably go 24k miles. When I need to replace them, I'll buy the Pilot Roads again.

I have been through two sets of Pilot Road 4s on my SV, they are really great tires, get great mileage, excellent grip in the wet, knee draggers in all conditions if you want that. I have ridden them from Vancouver to the Yukon and across Canada. Excellent choice for touring, expevnsive but worth it.
