Raising Fork Tubes?

I've just pulled/drained/re-filled/installed the Intimidators/reassembled the tubes on the '07 Wee. Considering perhaps moving the tubes up a bit in the T when re-installing. Not much, say 1/4-3/8"..evidently this supposedly helps with a bit quicker turn in and a more planted feeling nose.

Have not tried this before, so wondering what results others may have had trying this?

I think the common view is to raise about 3/4". That's often the max before the fork hits the handlebar. If you don't like it its easy to reverse or try a different amount. I think it will be hard to notice any changes when raising only 1/4".

I thought that the 3/4" amount was if also changing the rear dog bones to lower the rear end, then would have to compensate for that by raising (actually lowering) the nose to adjust for that rear change...perhaps I'm incorrect about that?

Many riders experimented with raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps of the Wees as the bike was considered to become less aerodynamically stable at speed. It quickened the steering very slightly, put slightly more weight on the front, and improved the angle of attack of the original v-stroms farings for better stability.

I do remember a more encompassing thread but cannot find it. Search in the 2004 to 2011 forum, the suspension and tire tech forum or the v-strom modifications and performance threads - there is more information there somewhere.

I had my front up about 3/4", rear was stock height. But I made so many more changes to the suspension, so difficult to say how much effect it had on steering. Plus the kind of tire you run also has an effect.

Yes your steering will feel quicker and the bike more nimble.

I slid the forks on my Wee through 10mm and loved it, I was considering dumping the Wee until I did that, the improvement to the steering was enough for me to keep the bike.

A little later I put 25mm lifted dog bones under the back, it was recommended I go back to standard on the front but after one test ride I loved the changes so much I keep the 10mm drop and the 25mm lift.

3/4" sounds excessive, from what I remember, based on that thread. I raised mine I believe 12mm and the bike handles just fine; easier to tip into turns yet still very stable in straight line.
Probably best to do it in stages till you find what works best for you. Doubt you would get to 3/4" change in front, as that would change the steering/stability too much.

When I bought my new to me 05 Wee the forks were raised in the triple clamps about 12-15mm. I thought the PO did it to lower the bike, so at 5'11" with a 34" inseam I felt I should put them back to stock height. Made a huge difference in high speed stability. The front end felt light and unstable on the freeway. Dropped them back down 15mm and all is well.

I encourage you to try the adjustment for yourself.

I did the same exact thing on my 09 DL650A. It was because I couldn't get my feet flat on the ground. Been running it that way for about 15K and wouldn't have it any other way.

Decided to go w/ about a 1/2"..will be awhile till actually get to try it..in no hurry..riding the RS while wurk'n on Strom..
