Or look at it this way: it's an opportunity for a scientific experiment.
Either way, you're not gonna be getting a BAD tire. It'll work just fine.
Worst case, you're simply not going to be able to tell much difference, other than a new tire usually feels nicer than a worn tire.
Best case, you'll say to yourself "Huh, this does work a little bit better. I guess the folks who live and ride around here know a thing or two".
