Pilot Road 4 tires first ride thoughts

Just got a set of the Pilot Road 4 tires installed this afternoon and rode bike home 20 miles on the interstate. First impression is: feels like I'm driving on that road surface of asphalt with the crushed rock in it. Kind of like a vibration feeling, but not a shaking of handlebars feeling. Hard to explain, but a weird feeling that I called the bike shop up and asked a few questions. It's just not "smooth" like the Continental tires that got pulled off.

Hoping that the tires wear in a little and they ride smooth. Not bad enough for me to pull them off, but it has a very unique feel to them that isn't the light gliding feeling.

Just my quick thoughts, never had a new bike tire feel like this. Thought it wasn't balanced correctly, but tech swears he dialed it in perfectly (four weight squares on front, zero on back since it balanced perfectly).

So, we shall see over the next few days.

Might be worth checking your air pressure. Some tyres feel funny with too much or too little air in them.

I've found the PRx tires like to be at about the swingarm indicated pressures plus 1 psi front and rear (34, and 37 front and rear).

Haven't had any issues at all with the PR4s feeling gravelly -- just the opposite, in fact.

my pr4's did not work very well. i bought a ft/back set and a friend spooned on the back for me--the front still in garage. i rode it to daytona twice for a hair less than 400 miles total. loaded it and headed for the strom rally a couple weeks ago. 40 miles from home, i pulled off to get gas and back on the road, 4 miles later the rear was flat. could find the nail but did find the impression/hole it left. i plugged it and aired it up...and there WAS A HUGE BUBBLE on the side wall. so i turned around, went home and took the wheel to Cycle Gear. The one tire they had was an Anakee 3. it appears to be fine. the front stock tire became severly cupped. thanks to Wheelers' i was able to get a matching anakee 3 front. the results...new ffront tire i need to list for sale.

You all will like this. Go out really early this morning because I wanted to see if the bike itself was causing the vibration for some reason and I really wanted to ride the bike into work today. Didn't have time to look at it yesterday.

Look under the bike trying to figure out if something may be loose, and when I put hand on the edge of the skid plate to lower myself to the ground easier, it moved!

One of the two back mounting bolts connecting the skid plate to the rear skid plate bracket is gone! And...the other bolt is only on about two turns!

Apparently, when the tech went to install my tires, he must have decided to loosen the bolts for some reason, even though I did mention at drop off that the EnduroGuardian was ok to use a lift on. What is curious is that the two ubolts with the four bolts up front weren't even touched.

Needless to say, I went into the parts bins and found another bolt and put it in. And of course, 95% of the weird feeling I had on the interstate the other day is now gone when I rode it into work. Didn't see any damage to anything...but that skid plate must have been bouncing in the mount something fierce at 75 MPH.

So, moral of story: Any time bike comes back feeling funny after taking it to a shop for work, make sure to double check their work and surrounding work areas.
