New DL650 owner from Montreal Canada

Hello Everyone,

I just bought a DL650 ABS 2013 that looks to be great shape.
This my 9th or 10th bike in my 34 years of riding motorcycles.
I've had all sorts of bikes from UJM to sport bikes to dual sports and adventure bikes.
My hope if that the V-strom recreates the great riding I had on my BMW F650GS but with better reliability and easier maintenance.
I'm not much of a talker but will be looking forward to reading all the knowledge collected here and maybe contribute the odd bit.
Current plans are to get to know the bike before putting it away for winter (in about 5/6 weeks) and then add luggage in the spring to go do tour early summer.
Most of my riding is done south of Montreal along the US border and in Vermont and New York State.
Oh in case someone was wondering I grew up in the Alps and learned to ride there.

Hola, Gabriel.
Your BMW was the single or the detuned twin 650?
I've got the Wee and the 650 single GS. The BMW is lighter and more nimble but the Wee is the preferred ride for longer distance riding.
It has the bigger gas tank too.

Hi Notacp,
I had 2 Bmw actually the original F650 called Funduro in Europe and rode I rode it there. Then I had the first gen F650GS single.
So far only a couple of test rides on the Vstrom 650 and it feels more stable or planted, cant really tell about weight it's been a while since the F650GS.
I can say I preferred the old F650 over the F650GS.

I weighed on the public scale near home the Wee when I got it before farkling But I think I had the factory saddle bags and the same trunk I put on my other bike. Just at 500 pounds.
I weighed the G650GS and it came in at 430 pounds.
With 100K miles on it I'm sure I should do something with the steering head bearings but it's not so notchy that I hate it. And I'm lazy so I live with it. But it doesn't seem as easy to ride quickly as when I first got the bike and was dragging the pegs occasionally. Or maybe I just got old.....er?
