new to me DL650 in SoCal

Hello all, been eyeing Vstroms for many years and lurking on this forum, recently purchased a 2014 DL650 with less than 3k miles!

I am 61, did some desert riding in the early 80s on an RM400, then got back into riding in 2007 with a KLR.

Feels like a fine Swiss watch compared to my Kawi lol. I have added the OEM tall seat and Adventuretech peg lowering kit to ease the ergos. I love the engine, 6-speed transmission and added power. The Strom feels much more roadworthy and planted at freeway speeds.

Funny thing is, getting the Vstrom has made me appreciate the KLR more than ever for its fun factor and lawnmower-like simplicity. For now I'm keeping both!

Welcome to the Forum. Congrats on your new ride. A suggestion, get a battery tender for your KLR, because it will most likely stand more than get ridden now that you own a V-Strom. LOL

Thank kd70qc, indeed they are. I don't expect to take the Strom in the dirt, unless on a well graded fire road. I can barely handle the KLR in anything rough and I would struggle to pick up anything heavier!

Haha! Good one. I'm afraid the Vstrom has taken the poor old KLR's spot (and battery tender) in the garage. The old beast sits outside under a tarp - at least it motivates me to ride it regularly!

Welcome, nice bikes, both of em. You have a long riding season, and lot's of good roads in your area to enjoy them.

Thanks, we are near the Riviera Village on the 'Avenues'. I tried to go to Newcomb's a few weeks back but the signs said Angeles Crest was closed - seems to be back open now (?)

Thanks - have spent time in the Ashland/Medford/Jacksonville area - I expect you have terrific choices. Takes a long tome to get out of the city in LA.
