Arrow Young Canadian Strom Rider

Hey everyone - I'm 34 years old from southern Ontario, Canada. I have a 2009 V-Strom 650, with 30,000 km on the odo. I've ridden bikes since I was a toddler but never have been much of a mechanic, so I am hoping to learn plenty on here!

Well you baught the wrong bike to learning about fixing motorcycles. Changing oil and preventative and routine maintenance yes, but DL650 hold up pretty well with little need for "repairs." So congratulations and welcome.

What richlandrick said. I had the rear shock rebuilt by Sasquatch and a mechanic friend check the valves and I rebuilt the left fork.
That's it for 100K miles on the bike. I have replaced body parts after a crash and done some farkles. Repair wise though, gas and go.
It's a wonderful thing.
Now if you are careful and follow the manual you many booger something up and then there is a lot of info on how to fix my goofs on the forum. Plus input from lots of well intentioned experienced folk here.
The little google box at the top of the page, type in what you want to know, like, saddle bags, problems with the headlight, etc and many links will give you lots of reading.

Welcome aboard (again!)

If you haven't already done so take a look in the Canadian section in regional forums and post a hello there. Lots of Canadian Strommers in southern Ontario.

..Tom

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

This can help preventing from cars pulling out in front of you (SMIDSY)
